“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
St. Anthony: Shield Against the Demons
This week on From the Housetops, discover the remarkable origin of St. Anthony’s Blessing, a powerful prayer centered on the triumph of Christ’s Cross that is given to protect souls from the attacks of the devil. Through the moving story of a woman delivered from despair and demonic oppression, the program explains how this blessing became part of the Church’s rite of exorcism and continues to remind the faithful of Christ’s victory over sin, death, and Satan.
Following this, Brother Matthew explores the virtue of religion, explaining how faith, hope, and charity lead us to give God the worship and reverence that are His due. He then clarifies the essential distinction between the adoration owed to God alone, known as latria; the veneration of the saints, or dulia; and the unique honor given to the Blessed Virgin Mary, or hyperdulia, while also examining how sacred images and relics deepen devotion to Christ and inspire the faithful to imitate the holiness of the saints.
