“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
The Song of Mary: The Magnificat
This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew reflects on the Blessed Virgin Mary and the fulfillment of her prophecy that all generations would call her blessed. Drawing from Father Dennis O’Shea’s article “The Song of Mary,” he explores Mary’s unique place as the Mother of God and the extraordinary devotion she has received throughout the centuries. The reflection traces the growth of devotion to Mary through the early Church, Christian art, poetry, churches, and the lives of countless faithful who have turned to her for help and protection.
Brother Matthew also considers Mary’s role as a model of purity and as the Mother of Divine Grace, showing how devotion to her accompanies Christians throughout every stage of life. He highlights her powerful intercession not only for individuals but also for nations and Christendom as a whole, with particular attention to the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 and the prayers offered through the Holy Rosary. Join us for this reflection on the enduring greatness of Mary, her maternal intercession, and the place she holds in the life and devotion of the Church.
