Bishop Challenges Idea of a "Universal Brotherhood" of All Faiths

This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew highlights Bishop Marian Eleganti, former Benedictine abbot and auxiliary bishop in Switzerland. Bishop Eleganti openly defends the Catholic faith and criticizes the synodal process for revisiting topics like women’s ordination. He is also concerned about growing trends within the Church that, in his view, compromise core Catholic truths. In a recent blog, he challenges the idea of universal brotherhood among all religions, calling it false ecumenism. He questions calling followers of other religions “brothers and sisters” when many persecute Christians worldwide.

Bishop Eleganti explains that true brotherhood comes through faith in Jesus Christ and baptism. He warns that universal brotherhood is unrealistic and that unity among Christians only exists in Catholic truth. Without truth, supposed unity is just discord disguised as diversity. He insists that the Catholic Church’s sacraments, apostolic succession, and papal authority are essential. True unity requires conversion to the Catholic faith.
