“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
Fasting and Conversion During Lent
This week, we explore the Lenten discipline, which involves three key elements: external fasting, internal fasting, and spiritual change. External fasting includes abstaining from food, drinks, and amusements to focus on God, while internal fasting means avoiding sin and growing in self-control. Spiritual change, the highest goal of Lenten discipline, is achieved through prayer, virtue, and acts of charity. The Church calls the faithful to attend Mass, deepen their spiritual lives, and embrace penance not as a mere formality but as a sincere effort toward holiness.
The temptations of Christ in the desert remind us of the battles we face—against the concupiscent of the Flesh, concupiscent of the eyes, the pride of life. Lent is not a season of sorrow but of hope, where we arm ourselves with faith, humility, and perseverance. Through fasting, prayer, and good works, we prepare our souls to celebrate the great mystery of our Redemption with purity and renewed devotion.
