In the Footsteps of the Divine Spouse: St. Teresa of Avila
This week on From the Housetops, we reflect on the sacred bond that unites the church triumphant in heaven and the church militant on earth. Though separated by state, both are joined by charity, for Jesus is their life and Jesus is our life. In a time of decadence, Teresa was sent by God to restore Carmel to its pristine beauty. Led by the Holy Ghost, she described with simplicity the mansions of the soul where the Holy Trinity dwells as in an anticipated heaven. Through her writings and example, virtues again flourished in the church.
Born at Avila of noble and virtuous parents, Teresa burned with love for Christ from her youth. Enduring trials and illnesses, she was adorned with angelic virtues and reformed the Carmelite rule with courage and faith, building thirty-two monasteries. Her heart burned with divine love, her body remained incorrupt, and miracles surrounded her life and death. She was declared the first woman Doctor of the Church. Join us as we honor St. Teresa of Avila and pray for her intercession.
