“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
Lessons in Humility: Jesus in the Crib
In this episode of From the Housetops, we are invited to adore the Infant Jesus in His cradle as the great master of humility. Though infinite in dignity and power, the eternal Word freely humbles Himself. In this profound abasement, Christ confronts human pride and teaches that humility is the foundation of all virtue. By contemplating the divine Child with faith, hope, and love, the saints learned to love hidden lives, simplicity, and modest roles, knowing that without humility even great virtues are corrupted by self-love.
From this humility of Christ flows God’s gift of grace through the seven sacraments instituted for our happiness: Baptism, Confirmation, the Holy Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. Taught with certainty by the Church through Scripture and Tradition, these sacraments answer the spiritual needs of the soul. Baptism gives supernatural life, Penance restores it, and the Holy Eucharist sustains it, while the others provide graces for particular states and duties of life. Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders also imprint an indelible character on the soul, marking the Christian as belonging to Christ and calling him to fidelity and perseverance. Join us as we reflect on these mysteries and learn to live with humility and gratitude before God.
