Mary, Second Eve and Her Immaculate Conception
In this chapter of From the Housetops, Brother Matthew marks the great feast of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception on December 8th, drawing from Abbott Guéranger’s liturgical year. The aurora of the Son so long desired rises on the horizon, for the happy mother of the Messiah was to be born before the Messiah himself, and the earth already possesses a first pledge of the divine mercy. This most sublime feast of Advent tells us that the birth of Jesus is not far off, and invites us to celebrate this solemnity with joy.
The Church honors the sublime privilege by which Mary was preserved from the original stain and filled with immeasurable grace from the first instant of her existence. Ever holy, ever pure, ever immaculate, Mary stands as the second Eve and the future mother of God.
