“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
Miracle of the Five Loaves: Foreshadowing the Holy Eucharist
This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew reflects on the Miracle of the Five Loaves, celebrated on Laetare Sunday, a joyful pause in the midst of Lent. As the Church momentarily sets aside her penitential tone, we witness Christ feeding 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes—a miraculous act that reveals His divine mercy and foreshadows the Holy Eucharist, the true Bread from Heaven.
In this episode, Brother Matthew invites us to see this miracle as a call to deeper trust and perseverance. Just as the crowd followed Jesus into the wilderness, we too are called to leave behind worldly distractions and draw near to Him. This moment of joy reminds us that our fasting and sacrifices are leading us to a greater feast—one that nourishes the soul and unites us with Christ in the mystery of the Eucharist.
“...and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye from the housetops.” Matthew 10:27
