“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19
Peace of Soul
This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew reflects on peace. Everyone desires peace: the end of wars, civil disturbance, and the presence of harmony in personal relations. Yet conflict remains with the world, with ourselves, and with sin. True peace comes from faith, grace, the sacraments, and conformity to God. Through the imitation of Christ and union with God, souls discover the peace of God, changeless and secure, even amid storms and trials. This peace is constant, detachment from self, and participation in divine repose.
Our quest for peace also requires rejecting sin. Brother Matthew continues reflecting that sin is turning from God and is rebellion against the Creator. Original sin is inherited from Adam and Eve, while actual sin is committed by our own act. Mortal sin causes death to the soul, requiring grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent. Venial sin, though lesser, weakens love and prepares the way for mortal sin. Both offend God and demand vigilance. The saints fear even small faults, striving for greater love.True wisdom is to seek first the kingdom of God, avoid sin, and unite with God in peace. Join Brother Matthew as he invites us to reflect on these teachings and find strength in the peace of God.
