The Reign of the Sacred Heart
This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew shares reflections from Father Victorino Osende’s Fruits of Contemplation, chapter 57, “The Reign of the Sacred Heart.” In that chapter Osende affirms Jesus came to establish a kingdom not of this world, but one of love—the reign of His divine heart. His kingdom is within us, where His spirit, life, sanctity, goodness, and wisdom dwell. To reign is not to dominate by force, but to subjugate by goodness and love. When His kingdom is fully established, justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit prevail, and all ambition, pride, and earthly desires are replaced by love for God and charity toward our neighbor.
To establish this kingdom in our hearts, we must destroy the reign of self-love and renounce every selfish interest. The law of divine love calls us to live solely for God, doing all things in Him and for Him. True perfection requires total renunciation, without limits or exceptions, so that the heart of Jesus may reign completely within us. Only by detachment from all that is outside of God can the spirit of God reign supreme. Let us embrace these teachings, examine our hearts, and take concrete steps to live fully under the reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
