“Let him who has ears Hear.” Matthew 13:19

True Interior Peace

This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew reflects on the events following Our Lord’s Resurrection, focusing on His appearance to St. Thomas and later to the disciples on the Lake of Tiberias. When Christ first appeared to the apostles, Thomas the Apostle was absent and refused to believe their testimony, insisting on seeing the wounds himself. Eight days later, Our Lord appeared again, inviting him to touch His hands and side, leading Thomas to profess his faith: “My Lord and my God.” From this moment, we are drawn to consider the peace Christ offers—a deep interior tranquility that governs the passions, frees the soul from agitation, and orders all things with calmness and wisdom.

Brother Matthew then turns to Christ’s appearance at the Sea of Galilee, where the apostles, having labored all night without success, obeyed Our Lord’s command to cast their nets once more and were rewarded with an abundant catch. In this, we are taught that all fruitfulness depends on obedience to God and on choosing rightly in all things: the side of grace over nature, of heaven over earth, and of the cross over comfort. Christ Himself prepares a meal for His disciples, revealing His paternal care while reminding us that labor and cooperation with grace are necessary for spiritual growth. Listen to this episode of From the Housetops and deepen your understanding of the peace and obedience that lead the soul to God.
