Unity in Truth: The Only Hope for World Peace

This week on From the Housetops, Brother Matthew explains that, with threats to world peace increasing, the root cause goes beyond geopolitical factors—it lies in injustice: not giving each their due, especially failing to give what is due to God. These truths are that Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Divine Trinity, became man and offered himself in sacrifice; that all humanity is called to unity of faith in Christ; and that baptism makes us members of the Church, Christ’s kingdom on earth. Pope Pius XI expressed these truths in the 1925 encyclical Quas Primas, instituting the feast of Christ the King, explaining Christ’s dominion, his law and authority, and our duty of obedience.

The encyclical teaches that Christ is king because of his perfection, charity, intellect, truth, and grace, reigning in the hearts and wills of men. Christ has received power, glory, and kingdom from the Father, and the Scriptures testify that his kingdom has no limits and shall never be destroyed. The prophets, including Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel, foretold his reign with justice and peace. The New Testament confirms this: the angel’s message, Christ’s own words, and his declaration of authority after the resurrection. Christ’s kingship is by essence and nature, through the hypostatic union, and by right of redemption through his precious blood. All peoples must serve him, for he is King of kings and Lord of lords. Join us as we reflect on the true foundation of peace—recognizing and embracing the reign of Christ the King.
